STRENGTHS: Sporting a compact and well-developed frame, Ford has good size among defensive backs, allowing scouts to project him to safety or nickel corner, both roles in which he's excelled for Auburn. He has a low, tight back pedal with light feet and fluid hips, helping him change direction easily. Ford accelerates smoothly, showing the straight-line to handle deep coverage responsibilities and has shown steady improvement in terms of route awareness. Ford is a generally reliable open-field tackler who is also a standout on special teams coverage units. Ford locates the football quickly, pursues with passion and flashes some explosiveness as a hitter while typically wrapping his arms securely for the reliable open-field tackle. The vision, agility and speed which helped him stand out as a prep running back makes him dangerous with the ball in his hands.
WEAKNESSES: Among the reasons why scouts may see Ford's best fit at nickel corner, however, is that despite his gaudy tackle numbers, he does have some notable missed tackles, as well. He has a tendency of ducking his head to collect himself and deliver big hits, leaving him vulnerable to missed tackles. He needs to show greater awareness of the ball while it is in flight, as well.
